For larger size vertical motors, because of the heavy rotor weight, the axial load capacity possessed by deep groove ball bearings cannot meet the safety of their vertical operation, and thus need to be satisfied by angular contact ball bearings or other bearing combinations.

In small and medium-sized motors, angular contact ball bearings are used as the locating bearings of the motor, and the locating bearings may be at the shaft extension end of the motor or at the non-shaft extension end of the motor.

i.e., they may be at the upper part of the motor or at the lower part of the motor; however, the basic idea of bearing installation is to "suspend" or "lift" the rotor of the motor through the bearings.
